Gbenga Sodeinde in Ado Ekiti
It was a happy reunion as students and staff of Christ School Ado Ekiti received the school’s 1982-87 set in the audience.
The alums, led by their president, Professor Folarin Oguntoyinbo, also donated laboratory equipment worth N1.5 million and branded jerseys worth over N200,000 to the school’s basketball team, recently crowned champions in Ekiti.
While presenting the equipment to the Principal, Chief Atoba Tope Peter, who was accompanied by the Vice Principal, Mr Olatunde Akinyemi, the HOD, Mrs Yemi Akinwande and a representative of the students, Oguntoyinbo said the donation was a way of giving back to the school that contributed to their success in life.
He recounted his administration’s achievements and the contributions of the 82-87 to ensure Christ School maintains its number one position in the state and the country at large.
He said that the set has had two reunions and, in the process, awarded scholarships to brilliant and exceptional students by paying for their WAEC and NECO and, by extension, gave out appreciation tokens to the teachers for contributing their own quota to the success of education in the school.
He also lauded the brilliance of one of the alumni, Dipo Popoola who has successfully developed a software document management system in Arkansas.
“We have one of our very own, Dipo Popoola in Arkansas who developed a software which can manage the documentation, collation of results and proper dissemination of information. We have rewarded Teachers as well because the school is not about students alone,” he explained. The 82-87 set are very passionate about the growth of the school, and that is why we came to support the school with these laboratory equipment.”
Oguntoyinbo thanked members of the set and the executives for their unflinching support towards his administration which he said has been nothing but full of success stories.
Responding, the visibly elated principal thanked the president and the other members of the set for not forgetting their alma mater and for remaining good ambassadors of the school.
Toba, who was full of praises to God for blessing the school with students with sterling qualities, promised that the equipment would be used judiciously.
Toba said, “I am assuring you that this equipment will be put to use to further strengthen and broaden the knowledge of the students in their chosen careers. I will call on the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Aderiye, and the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Mike Omotayo, to provide us with teachers if we don’t have one who can efficiently handle this equipment to the advantage of our students.”
