Buhari, Tinubu Not Sponsoring Me, Says Ogunbiyi, Osun Governorship Contender

Former Chairman of Mutual Benefits Group and Osun State governorship candidate, Akin Ogunbiyi, has dismissed the claim that he is working for President Muhammadu Buhari, and that the All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader, Senator Bola Tinubu, is sponsoring him.

Ogunbiyi, who is seeking the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the September governorship election, spoke through the Director of his Campaign Directorate, Olalere Fagbola.

He stated that the claim linking him to Buhari and Tinubu was the handiwork of opponents who are “afraid of the overwhelming support” he is enjoying in the race for the PDP ticket.

The governorship aspirant noted that the first attack on his aspiration came when he was labelled a political neophyte trying to reap where he did not sow before the insinuation was punctured by the state Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Sola Adagunodo, who confirmed that he had been deeply involved in the financing of the party and the reconciliation process of the past three years.

According to him, since the political neophyte story failed to fly, the mischief makers invented the Buhari/Tinubu sponsorship tale.

The aspirant explained that his choice of the PDP as a platform to actualise his dream was informed by his perception that it is the best party and a viable vehicle to deepen democracy in Nigeria, saying it is inconceivable for anyone to imagine that he would work against the party which success story he has been part of.

“As a firm believer and a man of strong conviction in my mission to usher in good things of life for the people, no amount of blackmail and character assassination will deter me from my resolve to put Osun State on the front burner of economic recovery,” Ogunbiyi added
