Achonu, Labour Party Gov Candidate Storms Lagos,  Vows to Rescue Imo from Insecurity, APC Misrule

The Labour Party candidate for the Imo State gubernatorial election in November, Senator Athan Nneji Achonu, has vowed to “rescue the state from the Governor Hope Uzodinma-All Progressives Congress, APC, misrule and gripping insecurity” that has besieged the state in recent times.

The leading governorship candidate, is visiting Lagos for the second time in a month, to canvass the support of Imo indigenous in the city.

Achonu, who was in Lagos earlier in the month is set to visit the former federal capital again today for an enlarged stakeholders meeting, involving all Igbo residents in Lagos.

The town hall meeting is being organised by the Senator Athan Nneji Achonu Campaign Council in collaboration with the organised by the Concerned Imo Influencers, a socio-political group.

It is slated for Villa Park Hotels and Suites, Amuwo Industrial Estate, by Second Rainbow Bus Stop, off Oshodi-Apapa Expressway by 1.pm.

The organisers have urged Imo indigenes resident in the city to turn up en masse for the weekend event and have a one-on-one interaction with Achonu.

The frontline contender, who has declared himself to be the candidate of all the parties, including the ruling APC in the state, noted that everyone was suffering the abnormal developments back home and urged all Imo people to join the movement to take back Imo from inept administrators that have run the state aground, by returning en masse to vote in the November election.

He gave insight into the many goodies he has in stock for the state among which is his pledge to conduct a free and fair local government election within six months of his election but also warned that whoever was caught stealing under his watch would be jailed.

Furthermore, he said he would declare a state of emergency in the power sector such that within one to two years of his administration, Imo would enjoy a steady power supply.

Achonu said he would turn Sam Mbakwe Airport into an international cargo hub in Africa.

He urged the people to seize the election to bring the much-needed change in Imo, adding that it was not his personal fight but that all Imo people must come together to kick out a government that has brought so much hardship and havoc upon the state.

Achonu charged the people to endeavour to deliver their individual booths, saying: “No one person can deliver a ward. Everybody will vote in one place; just make sure you deliver your booth and leave the rest to me and God to secure your votes.

“People should not say they are working for me. How could that be? Is Imo my father’s company? Is my father’s name Imo State? You are coming to work for yourself. Let us work together to deliver our state.”

He deplored the carnage going on in the state, which has been overrun by the wanton destruction of lives and property, and charged the people to avail themselves of the opportunity presented by the forthcoming election to turn around the fortunes of the state and restore its glory.

He noted: “Imo was very peaceful and progressive before the advent of the APC government. The people must not allow the APC to continue its ruinous missteps in the state for another four years.”

Citing the Imo Charter of Equity, the LP candidate pointed out that it is not fair for Orlu Zone to occupy the governorship of Imo State for 24 years, excluding the other two zones.

He added, however, that where the governor comes from does not really matter as long as he meets the aspirations of the people, which he explained has not been the case.

Achonu, who is the proponent of the Aku Ruo Ulo investment philosophy, vowed to put in place adequate measures to reverse the scorching anarchy and lawlessness into which the state has descended so that people would feel free to come home and invest.

Leading by example, Achonu has a multi-billion naira investment in Imo State, including a first-class thriving agro-industry in his village.

The organisers have promised Imo people that attend the Saturday event an ample opportunity to rub minds with the leading candidate and insisted that a new Imo is ‘Athanable’ under a Labour Party government steered by Achonu.
