Obaseki Confident as Bendel Insurance Battle RS Berkane

CAF CONFEDERATION CUP 

As Bendel Insurance FC of Benin battle hosts, Renaissance De Sportive Berkane of Morocco, in the last hurdle for a place in the money-spinning group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup today in the North African city, Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, remains confident of victory for the Nigerian team.

Bendel Insurance were held 2-2 in the first leg of the second round of the preliminary fixture at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City a fortnight ago.

Obaseki, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Andrew Okungbowa, urged the team to go for broke, as he noted that the Edo people are behind them, praying for their victory and safe return back to Benin City.

“As you file out on Friday (today) to take on your opponent, I, on behalf of the Edo State government and the entire people of the State, urge you to go for victory. You have the talents and means to win,” Obaseki drummed support for the  Benin Arsenal.

He continued: “The State Government and Edo people are behind you, praying for your success because we as a people are noted for our exploits. Don’t be deterred but take on your opponent squarely because I know that you are all brave warriors and ambassadors of our dear State. It is time to make Edo State great again through sports.”

Obaseki also assured the team of the support of Edo people and Nigerians living in Morocco as the State Government and the club management are working with the Nigeria officials in the country to mobilise support for the team  today.

Head Coach of the team, Monday Odigie, confirmed that  his wards are prepared and confident of defending their pride and dignity in Morocco today.

Bendel Insurance FC on Monday flew into the North African City  aboard a Royal Air Maroc flight to the warm embrace of Emmanuel Ovye Oliver, the protocol assistant and some other officials of the Nigeria Embassy in Morocco.

In the absence of Bendel Insurance’s top scorer, Imade Osarenkhoe, stand in Captain, Amas Obasogie, echoed the confidence of his teammates to get the job done today in Morocco. 

“Knowing the honour that awaits us gif we beat our opponents and qualify for the group stage, we are going to fight for everything in the field of play to return home happy. We made two mistakes in Benin  and will not want a repeat on Friday (today),” Obasogie pledged on behalf of his teammates.
