Abducted Unilorin Student Regains Consciousness in Bush, Say Police

Suspected kidnappers and armed robbers at the weekend abducted a female 100 level student of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, within the school premises.

The victim of the kidnap incident, Moyosore Bright of the Zoology Department, was abducted at about 2 p.m. last Friday and has regained consciousness in a bush, several kilometres away from the Ilorin metropolis, at about 7 p.m. of the same day.

THISDAY checks revealed that the student had boarded a mini bus popularly called Korope’, at the school terminus on the main campus alongside other students with the intent of heading to her hostel at Tanke area, very close to the institution, before the incident happened.

However, in a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, yesterday said the female student had to find her way back to Ilorin metropolis when she regained consciousness in the bush.

The PPRO, who said there was no mark of violence on the kidnap victim, added that her mobile phone was intact but some items were stolen from her, namely: gold chain, ATM cards and a sum of N3,000.

The statement read: “On January 27 at about 2200hrs, the DPO  of Tanke Police Station received an information that a 100 level student of the University of Ilorin was abducted within the school premises.

Upon receipt of the information, DPO and the team responded promptly. Preliminary investigation revealed that on January 27, 2024, at about 1400hrs, a female student, Moyosore Bright of the Zoology Department, University of Ilorin, boarded a mini bus (Korope) at the school terminus on the main campus alongside other students with the intent of heading to her hostel at Tanke.

“However, she suddenly regained consciousness in the bush at about 1900hrs of same day several kilometres away from the Ilorin metropolis.

“No mark of violence was found on her, and while her mobile handset was still intact, the following items were stolen from her, including a gold chain, ATM cards and N3000.

“Investigation is ongoing to track down the culprits who perpetrated this act.”
