The President, Women Arise for Change Initiative, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, has called on politicians in the country to stop using women as entertainers at campaign rallies, saying this has debased their qualities of involvement in governance.
She made the remark at a two-day workshop for Community Women and Women Political Aspirants for Osun, Ekiti and Ondo States, held in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti , State capital.
According to her, in most societies, women constitute 50 percent of the population, forming a critical mass in societal mobilization and direction.
She condemned a situation especially in Africa, where women are denied access to government decision-making and political processes.
She said: “It is observed that Nigerian women over the years have not fully involved themselves in the political space despite constitutional provisions that give them rights to political participation”.
