Sheriff Balogun in Abeokuta
Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Thursday declared that the state would never be safe haven for kidnappers.
Amosun, who spoke at Sawonjo area of Yewaland in the state where the former Minister of State for Education, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, was kidnapped on Wednesday night, promised that all efforts are in top gear to secure the release of the APC chieftain.
According to the governor, “Ogun State is safe and secured notwithstanding what has happened. And I can promise that everybody is involved in the rescue operation – the army, police, SSS, paramilitary agencies and the local vigilante. Farmers, hunters, everybody have been involved since late night when it happened.
The governor also expressed shock over the incident, saying that it was disturbing.
However, driver of the kidnapped senator, Mr. Wasiu Afonja, who narrated how the gang carried out the operation to journalists, said: ”The kidnappers waylaid us about a kilometre from the farm and attacked us.”
He said they thereafter collected their phones before whisking Anisulowo away, saying that ”they ordered the three of us who were with mama down. They collected our phones and beat us with machetes.”
He said: “The men spoke both English, Yoruba languages. Mama kept asking them what they wanted but they didn’t answer. It was around evening we discovered the abandoned jeep around Iganokoto.”
The NSCDC official attached to Anisulowo, Damola Akinwande, said the armed men did not allow them to look at their faces, saying they barked orders as they beat them with machetes.
Meanwhile, the Commander, Vigilante Service in the area, Mr. Oluyemi Zachaeus, said they had information that Anisulowo was spotted on bike with hood, saying that the information came from Obalado, a community within the kidnap radius.
