PDP Kicks Off Congresses in 33 States

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will this Saturday flag off congresses in thirty-three states of the country.

As part of the build-up to the May 21 national convention of the party, the National Executive Committee on Wednesday approved guidelines and processes for the conduct of the exercise which is expected to go on simultaneously nationwide.

According the party’s National Organizing Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha, the congresses are meant to elect delegates that will vote during the national convention. Apart from the delegates, new executives of the party are expected to emerged at the ward, local government and state levels.

PDP)  had said that today congresses will be the last  as it is planning to amend its constitution to the effect that all it’s candidates for elective offices, including the presidency  should henceforth emerge through a direct primary election.

Speaking during a meeting with the former National chairman  of the opposition party in Ghana, the New Patriotic  Party, Peter Mac Manu, the PDP Spokesman, Chief Olisa Metuh said that as part of the reforms taking place in the party, the leadership has proposed a constitutional ammendment to allow its candidates for the 2019 general elections to be selected by the people at the grassroot level.
