Salary Deductions Pit Workers Against Labour  Unions in Ekiti

  • Unions issue another 48hrs on payment of deduction

    Agitations by the leadership of labour unions in Ekiti state havecreated a wild gulf between them and the workers in the state civilservice.

    The chairmen of Nigeria Labour Congress, Com. Ade Adesanmi, TradeUnion Congress, Com. Odunayo Adesoye and Joint Negotiating Council,Com Blessing Oladele, had in a joint statement last week Tuesdayissued a 24 hours ultimatum to Governor Ayodele Fayose to pay thedeductions made from the December, 2015 salaries or face industrial action.

    The December, 2015 salaries were paid to workers in March,2016, but onlythe net was paid without the deductions to cooperatives, check-off duesto unions, among other miscellaneous payments totalling N512 million.

The union leaders later shelved the strike because it clashed with the nationwide strike that was suspended on Sunday.

As at the time of filing this report , the labour leaders, accordingto the chairman of TUC in Ekiti, were in a meeting to discusswhat would be the next line of action following another 48 hoursultimatum issued on Tuesday to the governor to comply with the earlierdemand.
