FNSB Approaches Corporate Bodies for Support
As part of activities to celebrate its students, the Federal Nigerian Society of Blind has announced the date for its forthcoming Mayball event in Lagos. The event, which will be holding this week in Lagos is expected to attract dignitaries including Nollywood artistes who have indicated their readiness to lend their support to the cause of these disadvantaged students.
At a press briefing held recently, Chairman of the Governing Council, Asiwaju Fola Osibo said the idea behind the gathering is to showcase its courageous students and also celebrate the sponsors for their immense role in helping the visually impaired to achieve their dreams.
Osibo, who stated that the briefing was another avenue to enlighten the public on its activities, said the society was doing its best to rehabilitate and trained the students. He stated that the flagship event being organized by the society is another opportunity to rejoice with the students especially in an environment that is relaxed.
While commending the effort of all the sponsors, Osibo called on other public spirited individuals and corporate bodies to support the institute stressing that there are many grounds which need to be covered to assist the students.
He said: The Mayball event is a flagship event, which is an opportunity to showcase what we do, to rejoice with us in an environment that is relaxed and at the same time to solicit for support so that we can continue to look after the visually impaired. We need your support so that the children can command dignity and respect while reaching their full potentials.
As I speak, there is an urgent need to expand our hostel facilities, develop additional hostel by putting additional students that will accommodate 1200 students. Asked if the society was not considering expanding its footprints beyond Lagos, Osibo said the idea remains its ultimate intention but may not look in that direction due to finance and none existing structure.
He said: “It is our ultimate intention to have branches in various states of the country. But you will agree with me that you must have solid financial position to embark on such intention. As it is, there is no finance to kick start that. Besides, even when we are set to do it, we want to ensure that we have finances and structure to be able to do and do it successfully. I must state that, we are not restricted to students or people from Lagos alone. We welcome people from all over the countries.”
