Niger State PDP Gets Parallel Executive Council

Laleye Dipo in Minna

A parallel state executive council of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, emerged in Minna, Niger state, at the weekend with the group also pledging their support for the Ibrahim Mantu faction at the national level .

The parallel executive was elected at what was described as a ‘Special Niger State Congress, Minna 2016’ held at the Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre in the Niger state capital.

Prominent members of the group are former appointees of former Governor of Niger state, Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu, though a former member of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Baba Shehu Agaie, said they were not being sponsored by either the former governor or any politician.

Spokesman of the group and former Chairman of the party in the state, alhaji Abdulrahaman Enagi, told newsmen that they were pushed into taking the action by the high level of impunity, lawlessness and undemocratic actions by a former governor of the state, Alhaji Abdulkhadir Kure.

He said despite the petition by the group to all the appropriate organs of the party after the state congress, “nothing happened, giving us no option than to form our own executive council.”
