Police Investigate University Security Men for Robbery

Laleye Dipo in Minna

The Police in Minna, Niger state, are investigating some security men in the employ of the Federal University of Technology, Minna in Niger state, for last weekend’s robbery at the Bosso campus of the institution.

The security, men numbering about seven, were apprehended by police operatives following the way the robbery was carried out which gave an indication that they were privy to the crime.

It was learnt that the robbers who raided the campus first tied the hands of the security men and some six students before going on to carry out the operation but after the incident they were untied and their handsets earlier seized returned to them.

The police suspected foul play and had to apprehend the security men and some students for questioning.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elikana, who confirmed the incident, said: “We are questioning some of the security men over the incident; how can robbers seize their phones and return them to them after the operations?”

Elikana also confirmed that the case had been moved from the Bosso division of the force to the Criminal Investigation Department, CID, at the headquarters for proper investigation.

Investigation into the case has commenced, Elikana said.

It was gathered that the robbers who arrived the Bosso campus of the University at about 2.30am on Saturday were dressed in Police mobile patrol uniforms.

After the disarming the security men and six students met on the campus at the time, they went ahead to break the ATM machines of a first generation bank and made away with unspecified amount of money.

Mrs Lydia Legbo Director of Information of the university when contacted also confirmed the incident.
