Benue Governor Vows to Nab Killers of His Security Aide
George Okoh in Makurdi
Benue state Governor Mr. Samuel Ortom has vowed to bring to book anyone who is found culpable in the killing of his Special Assistant (SA), Mr. Denen Igbana who was murdered a fortnight ago in Makurdi.
The Governor also disclosed that several persons have since been arrested in connection with the heinous killing.
Making the comment at the funeral internment of Igbana in Vandeakya yesterday, the governor exalted the quality of Igbana adding that the killing was an attempt to ridicule the amnesty programme by the state government.
Meanwhile a Federal Public Complaint Commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav has advised Ortom to purge his cabinet of people with shady character if his administration plans to make meaningful impact on the lives of people.
Tsav stated this in Makurdi after the arrest of a Special Adviser to the governor on special duties, Arch. Joe Ikyagba in connection with the killing of Denen. It was gathered that Ikyagba along with one Saando aka ‘general’ were picked up on Friday and were cooling off in the police cell.
The police spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu confirmed the arrest of eight persons yesterday, among them he said is a special adviser to the governor but noted that the names of the arrested persons would soon be made public.
Tsav said he had confirmed the arrest of the governor’s aide and added that the person arrested with the special adviser was once arrested for unlawful possession of arms and was remanded in prison custody but was released at the instance of the special adviser.
While urging the governor to review the appointment of some of his aides whom he claimed were of shady character, Tsav said the same aides would soon discredit his government.
