Unidentified hoodlums at the weekend attacked churches in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, setting some of them ablaze and destroying facilities.
THISDAY gathered that the altar of The Apostolic Church along Information Drive; and Mount Zion Gospel Church along Aka Itiam were all set ablaze while the Apostolic Church along Bassey Esau Street and Salvation Army Church had their property, including pastoral seats, musical instruments, pulpits, among others, destroyed.
The cause of the attack on the churches could not be ascertained immediately, but there was no report of any wounded person or life lost.
Reacting, the State Chapter of the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Sunday condemned in strong term the attacks on some of the churches within the Uyo metropolis.
The state Chairman of CAN, Rev. Ndueso Ekwere, described the action as abominable and a sacrilege for anyone to enter the House of God and destroy its property.
He called on the security agencies in the state to unravel the identity of those who are behind the burning of the church items.
