The Nigeria Police Force, (NPF) Cooperative Society, through its Globacom-powered Closed User Group (CUG) account, has rewarded 270 of its officers and members of the CUG with diverse prizes, including the star prize of N500,000 each, won by 20 officers.
Seven out of the 20 who won N500,000 each were present at the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Monday to pick up their cheques. They were Rabiu Hussaini, Olasunbo Tokunboh-Ajayi, Sunday Edoka, John Otame, Abiodun Mudasiru, Sikiru Opakunle and Thankgod Esechie.
The immediate past Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, personally handed over the winning cheques to two of the winners, John Otame and Abiodun Mudashiru, in his office ahead of his pullout from the Force on Tuesday.
Others who won the N500,000 star prize and were expected to proceed to Globacom’s Abuja office to pick their cheques are Umar Bala, Kenneth Enumaje, Dickson Solomon, Ikechukwu james Nwogu, Rasheed Aliu, Toba Ajayi, Alli Bello, Roseline Iriemivbor, Emmanuel Gabriel, Saheed Ganiyu, Rasheed Sanni, Calunun Kemuel and Thomas Saleh.
Two hundred and fifty other members of the Police CUG won items including deep freezers, 5KVA Generators, Water Dispensers, Home Theaters and Smart Phones.
Speaking after receiving her N500,000 cheque, Mrs.Olasunbo Tokunboh-Ajayi , who is bursar at the Police Children’s School, Ado Ekiti, said that winning the prize is like a dream come true. She urged other police personnel and civilians in the service of police formations across the country to join the Police CUG. “When I was called about the prize I won, I told the Customer Care person that Glo was already doing a lot for us and that I was already enjoying the network, I did not know that I could still receive more from Globacom”, Tokunboh-Ajayi said.
Another winner of N500,000, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rabiu Hussein, who is Police Area Commander of Railway Command, Zaria, said it was a big surprise to him. He said,“what Globacom has done is new and wonderful. I wasn’t expecting this…honestly I wasn’t expecting it”, he enthused.
The winners qualified for the prizes by using a minimum of N1500 within a month. Members of the CUG were required to dial *200*01*1# to participate in the promo.
The first set of winners emerged in a draw held at the Zone Force HQ Annex in Ikeja, Lagos, earlier in May 2016.
Presenting the gifts to the winners at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Globacom’s Coordinator, Enterprise Sales, Folu Aderibigbe, said that the prizes were provided by Globacom as the company’s way of giving back to the officers and gentlemen of the Nigerian Police and further encourage them in the performance of their jobs.
“In Globacom, we believe in rewarding the various segments of the Nigerian society who form our customer base. We also believe that organizations such as the Nigerian Police Force should be encouraged and motivated as they perform the onerous task of safeguarding lives and property.
Mr. Aderibigbe said that the police CUG scheme, known as COOPCOM , was started by Globacom to allow members of the force to communicate among themselves free of charge for as long as they desire at a low monthly rental and to also make calls outside the CUG at very minimal cost.
According to him, the project was specially designed to make life easier for families of policemen across the country. “We have considered the rate at which officers of the Nigerian Police Force are transferred across the country, leaving their families behind at various commands. This scheme will certainly reduce the communication gap between the officers and their families while they are on such postings,” he said.
Also speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, Mr.Solomon Arase said that the Glo CUG lines would enhance the ability of the force to fight crime. He also described the facility as affordable and secured. “This CUG is cheaper, faster, has a wider range and is secured because it is in-house,” he stated.
Police officers on the Coopcom CUG who use up to N1500 above monthly qualify for a draw for the prizes including a star prize of N500,000 for 20 Police Officers, second prize of 30 deep freezers and a third prize of 40 5KVA Generators. Also to be won are 50 Water Dispensers, 60 Home Theaters and 70 Smart Phones.
Nigerian Police Officers (Serving or Retired) on the Police Cooperatives , as well as their families and civilian staff of the Nigerian police Force are qualified to participate in the promo. The customer can opt in just once by dialing *200*01*1#. There is also a bonus credit on every recharge as part of the promo.
