The Cross River State Government has flagged off its Multi-Year Operational Plan (MYOP).
The inauguration of the plan came against that thr backdrop of the release of $1.5 million to each state by the federal government and donor agencies for the revitalisation of the Primary Health Care (PHC) sector across the country.
At the weekend, the administration of Governor Ben Ayade, at the Obudu
Mountain Resort flagged off the MYOP developed by the Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency (CRSPHCDA).
While inaugurating the project, Ayade said one of the
focus of his administration was the actualisation of the State Health Insurance Scheme, noting that it was a sustainable means of health
care financing which will protect the people from catastrophic health
expenditures that could impoverish them.
Ayade, who was represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Inyang Asibong, said that it was his wish to achieve Universal Health Coverage through the State Health Insurance Scheme, and the revitalisation of at least one PHC per ward.
In her remarks, the Director General of the CRSPHCDA Dr. Betta Edu, said the MYOP will provide the needed direction for the agency in the next three years, and will guide the agency’s activities and set milestones/targets as well as measure performance of PHC delivery in the state.
Edu said MYOP will aid proper integration of all primary health care programmes and align partners’ activities with the state government’s road map for PHC.
Edu said the MYOP will serve as a resource mobilisation tool for primary health care in the state.
“MYOP is very robust and clearly applies innovative interventions that will ensure we meet the save one million Lives objectives of improving maternal health and skilled deliveries, immunization coverage, especially for Penta3, use of Long Lasting Insecticide Nets amongst others,”she said.
