Ondo Guber Race: PDP Leaders Endorse Ex-AGs Candidacy
James Sowole in Akure
Less than a month to the governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the leadership of the party in Owo/Ose Federal Constituency monday adopted the immediate past Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, as their candidate.
The adoption of Jegede was contained in a communique issued at the end of the meeting of the party leaders convened by Mr. Tokunbo Modupe.
The meeting attended by the leadership of Owo/Ose Federal Constituency including the pioneer state Chairman of the party, Chief Ayo Awodeyi, said they resolved to support the candidature of Jegede based on his capacity and capability to win the governorship election.
Modupe, who spoke with journalists after the meeting, said winning the election was paramount to the leaders and members of the party and not about an individual or town that he or she comes from.
To pacify aggrieved aspirants from the Ondo North senatorial district, who had earlier raised eyebrow about Jegede, the meeting set up a five-member reconciliation committee.
The committee was asked to appeal to leaders of the party in the Ondo North senatorial district starting from Owo/ Ose axis.
The committee headed by former Minister of Education, Dr Ade Abitoye, has the first Chairman of PDP in the state, Col Babatunde Awodeyi (rtd), Mrs. Eniolorunda, Mrs. Mobolaji Suuara and Mr. Ojo Adewale as members.
Modupe said some people from his constituency were aggrieved over the perceived adoption of Jegede by Governor Olusegun Mimiko due to the fact that they were not properly briefed.
He expressed optimism that by the time the reconciliation committee starts its work, various differences would be resolved because winning the forthcoming election is the priority of the party.
