James Sowole in Akure
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday said it had no intention of imposing any candidate of the party for the November 26 gubernatorial election in the state.
The PDP State Chairman, Mr. Clement Faboyede, made the clarification while
presenting the expression of interest and nomination forms to an aspirant and immediate past Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, at the party secretariat in Akure.
Jegede was ushered into the party secretariat by a large number of people from various groups who gathered from various parts of the state.
Faboyede declared that the party would provide a level playing ground for all aspirants irrespective of which area of the state they come from.
He allayed the fears being expressed by some people on the likely effect of crisis rocking the party at the national level on the November Gubernatorial Election in the state declaring that the issue cannot deny the party of victory.
Faboyede said the party had a way of resolving its crisis both at the local and national level boasting that no opposition party can defeat the PDP in the forthcoming governorship election.
The chairman also expressed optimism that the national leadership crisis would soon be over, saying all the stakeholders in the party were already working towards the resolution of the crisis.
“I want to assure you that the PDP has no rival in this state, no opposition can defeat us, what is happening at the national level cannot affect us, it cannot affect our chances of winning the governorship election, we are retaining the power in the state.
“Our party has a big and wide crisis-resolution mechanism, so I want to tell all our members across the state that there is nothing to fear”, he said.
