Paul Pogba has dropped the biggest hint yet that his eagerly-anticipated £100million move back to Manchester United is on the verge of completion – by signing a lucky fan’s shirt.
United fan Jonathan Perkins was celebrating his 18th birthday on holiday in Los Angeles and presumptuously wearing his new ‘Pogba 6’ shirt.
Then, to the teenage fan’s astonishment, he bumped into the French superstar – coming to the end of his own summer holiday – walking along a Californian street.
Pogba, who is in LA for a medical after personal terms and a contract worth £290,000-a-week were agreed this week, was all-too-happy to sign the shirt and pose for a photograph, even giving a thumbs up to the camera.
Naturally, Perkins shared the incredible moment on his Instagram account, writing: ‘So this just happened! (Probably the first United jersey he has signed since the impending transfer) Thanks @paulpogba for making my 18th birthday a little more special!’
Pogba, 23, is a prolific Instagram user himself and later posted two pictures of himself visiting the Universal Studios theme park.
The first one, which sees the midfielder posing for the camera in front of the iconic Universal globe, was captioned: ‘Breaking news: Pogba undergoes medical check in Universal Studios amusement park California.’
The second one sees Pogba wearing a backpack and clutching a piece of orange paper, reads: ‘News: We catch Pogba with his contract in Universal Studios LA amusement park.’
Pogba has dropped a number of social media hints over the past few days that his deal to rejoin United from Italian champions Juventus is nearing fruition.
He posted a picture with his agent Mino Raiola in a Miami swimming pool and a photograph of himself refuelling his sports car on Route 66 while wearing a red baseball cap and trainers.
It comes as Sir Alex Ferguson, the former United manager who let Pogba go to Juventus in 2012, gave Jose Mourinho his approval over the world record signing.
Ferguson dined with the new United boss at their Carrington training ground and also mingled with the players for the first time since he retired three years ago.
Mourinho is keen to work closely with close friend Ferguson and the former boss endorsed Pogba’s signing despite falling out with Raiola first tie around.
United and Juventus have agreed on the deal, personal terms have been accepted and it is believed Pogba has completed his medical in Los Angeles.
Pogba is expected to return to Manchester next week, when the deal is expected to be formally announced.
United played Galatasaray in Gothenburg on Saturday night in their latest pre-season friendly.
