HID Awolowo Foundation to be Unveiled on Sept 19
The Obafemi Awolowo Foundation is poised to unveil the HID Awolowo Foundation on September 19, with the latter foundation to be dedicated to a commemoration of the life, times and legacy of YeyeOodua HID Awolowo, an outstanding stateswoman who passed away on the same date last year.
According to a release by the Executive Director/Founding Member, ObafemiAwolowoFoundation, Dr. OlatokunboAwolowoDosumu, the event, projected auspiciously as a high-profile intellectual occasion, will take place at the Ikenne, Ogun State home of the Awolowos and will commence at 12noon. It is expected to attract a qualitative audience of distinguished men and women across the nation and will be chaired by Mrs. Ayo Obe, a Lawyer, Human Rights Activist and Public Intellectual.
It will feature among other events, the inauguration of the HID Awolowo Foundation Advisory Council and a Lecture to be delivered by popular Gender Empowerment Activist and Human Rights Advocate, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin.
The HID Awolowo Foundation is being launched under the aegis of the ObafemiAwolowo Foundation with the aim of perpetuating the edifying legacy of YeyeOodua HID Awolowo, the character of which was complimentary and contributed significantly to the success of the life mission of her husband, Chief ObafemiAwolowo, the release noted
“In doing this, we are eager to ensure that the notable qualities of YeyeOodua HID Awolowo, her statesmanship and perseverance in the face of adversity continue to inform the national architecture of values and character building.
It should be noted that the HID Awolowo Foundation will exist as a Research And Advocacy Institute, independent, nonprofit and non-partisan with the core objective of propagating the ideals of YeyeOodua HID Awolowo whose place in the political history of Nigeria is assured. The general public is hereby invited”, it added.
