Attempted Jail Break: Bauchi Prison Command Refutes Story
The Bauchi State Prison Command has refuted the news making the rounds alleging that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) foiled an attempted jailbreak in Bauchi Central Prison. A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Adam Jibrin, said the story was not true, adding that there was no such incident in Bauchi Central Prison or in other prisons in the state command, adding that “all the prisons remain calm and peaceful.” Jibrin expressed dismay at the unprecedented anxiety the purported jailbreak story has generated in many quarters.
He assured the public of the readiness of the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) to ensure that it does everything within its statutory mandate to promote the safe custody and reformation of inmates under its care. The statement added: “While appreciating all the security agencies in the state for their support and commendable working synergy towards fighting crime and maintaining law and order in the state. We wish to advise the media to adhere strictly to journalism ethics by verifying their stories from appropriate authorities before going to press.”
