Kogi Police Hunt for Killers of Chairman of Cattle Association

The Kogi State  Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Chafe, yesterday said the command is hunting for the killers of the Chairman of the state chapter of the Miyetti-Allah Cattle Breeder Association, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar.

Abubakar popularly known as Jalido, was allegedly killed by some unidentified gunmen   at about 2a.m. on Saturday in his house at Peace community in Lokoja.

Speaking with journalists on the killing yesterday in Lokoja, the police commissioner said they had visited the scene of the incident and that his men were working round the clock to arrest the killers.

 Chafe stressed that his command would do everything possible to bring to book those behind the death of  Abubakar, adding that whoever was involved would not go free.

He therefore appealed to the Fulani people to remain calm and not to take the law into their hands and remain peaceful as he appealed to anybody with useful information to report to the command. 

Meanwhile, the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has condemned the killing of  Abubakar.

In a statement issued yesterday through his Chief Press Secretary, Petra Akinti Onyegbule, the governor promised that his government was already working with security agencies to unravel the incident.

“Bello is appealing that the prevailing calm in the wake of the unfortunate crime should be sustained, and strongly discourages extrajudicial reaction from any quarters.

“I received with sadness, the death of  Abubakar today. On behalf of the good people of Kogi State, I express my condolences to the Wuro Miyetti-Allah Association over the dastardly act which claimed the life of  Abubakar.

 “As painful as this must be, I enjoin all to be calm as government is already working with the security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of this heinous crime as soon as possible, and made to face the consequences of their cowardly actions.

“May Almighty Allah grant  Abubakar Al-Jannah Firdaus,” he said.

The governor noted that it was important that crime does not go unpunished, in order to send a resounding message to all and sundry that such will not be tolerated in Kogi State under his watch.
