Senator Solomon Adeola’s Headache
Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, aka Yayi, representing Lagos West Senatorial District, has proved to be a man driven by reasonable ambitions. He is an incurable dreamer. Luckily, most of his dreams have come true, as evidenced by his current position.
But it seems the Senator’s dream of clinching the number one job in Ogun State may not be a walk-over. Yes, many are aware of his financial muscle, but the odds against him are literally mountainous.
Spy Glass gathered that his closeness to a former Lagos State governor and All Progressives Congress ( APC) stalwart, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, may constitute a boulder to actualising his dream. Many of the state’s top politicians who are not too loyal to Tinubu and regarded as his godfather, consider his ambition as a major slap on them, given that he is considered as a Lagos breed politician.
Besides, it was gathered that the people of his immediate constituency in Yewa are opposed to his ambition because he is seen as a Lagos politician who, according to them, has lost touch with his roots.
Spy Glass also learnt that the incumbent governor of the state, Ibikunle Amosun, whose tenure ends in 2019, has a preference for another candidate in the state; and it is alleged that he may use the power of incumbency in Nigeria’s politics to swing the political pendulum towards his preferred candidate come.
In spite of the seeming odds, Adeola believes he can serve his people better in a more elevated position, politically. Perhaps, this explains why he is reportedly nursing the dream of becoming the number one citizen of Ogun State come 2019.
A source hinted that there have been serious consultations among the people who matter across the state towards the actualisation of this dream. In fact, the return of a former governor of the state, Chief Olusegun Osoba, to the APC is described as an orchestrated step to propping up the political ambition of Adeola in the state.
