CAN Chairman Condemns Killing of Christians in Southern Kaduna

The Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), South-South Zone, Port Harcourt, Archbishop God – Dowell Avwomakpa has condemned the killing of Christians in Southern Kaduna.

He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene urgently in matter to avert the looming danger that confronts the country in the face of the open decimation of an entire group in the country.

The cleric also called on the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbanjo and other past leaders who recently compose a song praying for the unity of Nigeria to go beyond singing and preaching.

He enjoined them to register their displeasure regarding the killings in Southern Kaduna as well as the hunger in the land by telling President Buhari the truth of the matter.

According to him, if a man keeps beating his wife, the day the wife decides to react, she could throw him inside fire.

While noting that Christians in Southern Kaduna have cried to Christian leaders across the country to come to their aid, Avwomakpa who is also the Chairman of Niger Delta Bishops Forum wondered why the federal government has not deployed military men to crush the Fulanis that are coming to commit such havoc in Southern Kaduna especially since the Kaduna Governor’s effort at addressing the crisis has not yielded the expected results.

The cleric noted that if the killings of Christians continued, without meaningful efforts to stop it, the Christians will react by crying to God and allow Him to judge.

“We have for decades been praying for the peace and unity of the country as well as the prosperity of the people but if the reward for our prayers is to kill our people in their thousands in Southern Kaduna then we would have to cry to God to bring judgement upon the land in a bid to save our people”, he said.

While expressing his heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Christians in the South-south Zones, to the families of the deceased and the entire body of Christ, he prayed that God should grant the departed souls eternal rest.

According to the cleric, people alleged to be Fulani cannot be eating Christians as if they are eating bread and other Christians are keeping quiet. The Federal Government must do something before life becomes too brutish and lawless for our people to bear.
