NIMASA Appoints Hajia Tumaka Director
The Governing Board of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) at its 34th meeting in December 2016, approved the promotion of some management staff of the agency from deputy directors to Directors, including the spokesperson, Hajia Lami Tumaka.
Hajia Tumaka was, until her elevation, the Deputy Director, Corporate communications in the agency.
She was promoted along with seven others; Mr. Sani Mohammed, Head of Procurement, Mr. Olayemi Abbas Head of Financial Services and his counterpart in Cabotage department, Mr. Hassan el-Yakub.
Also promoted were the Coordinator of Western Zonal Operations, Hajia Aisha Jummai Musa, Head of Marine Environment Management, Mrs. Susan Asagwara, Head of Shipping Development, Mr. Akin Akinyosoye and his counterpart in Legal Services, Mr. Suleman Abdulsalam.
In a bid to reposition NIMASA the Director General, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, deployed Tumaka as director, special duties in the Office of the Director General with responsibilities for external relations and technical cooperation.
In this role, the fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations is expected to deploy her vast knowledge in creating a harmonious atmosphere among the agency’s stakeholders. She will also have direct responsibility over all areas of technical cooperation between the NIMASA and other stakeholders both foreign and local.
A performance-driven individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced and challenging environment, Haji Tumaka was born on January 14, 1960 in Kaduna and had her early education at the St. Georges Primary School Falomo, Ikoyi Lagos State, the Fatima Girls Secondary School and the Government Girls College both in Minna, Niger State.
She is a 1979 graduate of English with a bias in Literature at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria where she also earned an MBA in Business Administration in 2000. Her quest for further education and professionalism took her to the TV College Jos in 1986 where she earned a Certificate in Film Production with Distinction and the prestigious Holborn College London in 1993 earning a Diploma in Public Relations.
Hajia Tumaka has had a successful career spanning nearly three decades in both the private and public sectors of Nigeria’s economy.
