Rotary Club to Donate Books
The Rotary Club of Lagos in partnership with Quramo Publishing Group will next week Tuesday, distribute books to the pupils of Randle Avenue Primary School, Surulere, one of the many beneficiaries of the Rotary READ project. The aim of the Rotary READ project is to encourage children to read for pleasure as a means to achieving success in life. According to the UK National Literacy Trust, “A positive attitude to reading has been proven to have more impact on future attainment … Encouraging reading for pleasure is therefore one of the ways to support a child’s future success.”
The books that are going to be distributed to pupils in the school are mainly story books, the kind of books that expand the mind and stretch the imagination of children to be able to innovate, make discoveries, and invent things in the future. The books are targeted at children ages 7 – 9. As part of the book presentation ceremony, two celebrities – Mr. Deji Omotoyinbo, a seasoned sports broadcaster, and Mrs. Emma Kalejaiye, an educationist, have been invited to read to the pupils and interact with them. Two pupils shall also read excerpts from the books. The President of the Club, Mrs. Modupe Sasore, will lead the delegation of Rotarians to the event while the CEO of Quramo Publishing Group, Mr. Supo Sasore, is also expected to be present at the event.
