Registration Opens for 2017 Okpekpe Road Race
Registration has opened for the fifth edition of the Okpekpe international 10km road race which holds on Saturday May 13 in Okpekpe, Etsakor East local Government Area of Edo State.
Dare Esan, spokesman for the race said intending runners can for quick and easy registration download the tracking app launched for the race early this month or visit the website www.okpekperoadrace.com to register.
“Organisers of the Okpekpe international 10km road race are delighted to announce that intending runners at the fifth edition of the race can also use our tracking application to register for the race,” said Esan.
“Runners can also register through our website www.okpekperoadrace.com.Registration will not however be limited to online platforms as we intend to use the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) to help distribute the registration forms when the time comes. The online platform is mainly for those who are far from the registration points that will be announced in due course.”
Esan however allayed fears that those that will register manually, especially the ‘local’ elite athletes that will come through the AFN cannot use the Okpekpe road race tracking app.
‘All registered runners and their loved ones can download and make use of the app to either track their performance or print their certificate of participation at the end of the race.”
The Okpekpe international 10km road race is the only road race in Nigeria that is recognised by both the (International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) because its race course has been measured by an accredited measurer using the approved calibrated method. It is also the only IAAF bronze label event in West Africa in 2017.
The race is organised by Pamodzi Sports Marketing, leaders in sports marketing and hospitality business in Nigeria.
