The International Telecommunications Union (ITU), 3GPP and OFCOM are fine-tuning plans on unifying standards and implementing spectrum collaboration toward the adoption of 5G technology innovation to drive mobile communication growth across the world.

In a statement made available to THISDAY by Huawei Technologies, in Abuja, it said China Mobile, Deutsche Telekom and NTT DOCOMO have started sharing their transformation platforms from 4G to 5G network innovation.

With Huawei hosting the Mobile World Congress 2017, in Barcelona, the statement read: “At this Sharing, regulatory agencies including ITU, 3GPP and OFCOM reached agreements on unifying standards, implementing spectrum collaboration, accelerating 5G standardisation, and driving the entire industry to focus on 5G technology innovation.

“Leading global operators including Deutsche Telekom, China Mobile, Turkcell, Altibox and NTT DOCOMO shared their 4G-to-5G evolution roadmaps, initial 5G commercial use scenarios and test processes.”

The statement said the meeting will focus sharing the latest 5G technology evolution and the road to new growth, network value maximisation and operations transformation, adding that it is a two-pronged approach needed to help operators accelerate their digital transformation.

“The present is all about maximising network value, which increases revenue and guarantees sustainable business growth.

“The future will be facilitated by Huawei’s pipe advantage, which opens up new avenues, makes video a basic service, and builds cloud-based B2B services. Cloudification is the most effective strategy for industry and business digitalisation, and it supports 5G development.” It said.

The President of Huawei’s Carrier Business Group Zou Zhilei, said: “In the digital era, video and cloud are powerful engines for operators to drive new growth.

“An open ecosystem is the key to achieving success. Huawei continues to invest in these areas to help customers to succeed, and we work with partners to make the cake we share bigger.”

Operators from Asia Pacific, Latin America, Africa, Eastern Europe and Middle East, the statement added will share experiences in the deployment of home broadband networks, the construction of urban sites, indoor digitalisation and fixed network modernisation.
They will also be expected to discuss on how to fully exploit the value of their existing networks to form a powerful cycle of service development and network construction.
