Unseeded Duo Win LCC Tennis

The inaugural edition of the Lagos Country Club Doubles Rumble Tennis Tournament came to a fascinating end over the weekend with Bimbo Okubena and Ahmed Sanni emerging champions by beating the pair of Ayo Oludemi and Tunde Olujobi 6-2, 6-1.

The unseeded finalists came into the match by claiming the scalps of the seeds in the semifinal with Okubena and Sanni defeating top seed, Matt Holmes and Chijoke Agbo while Oludemi and Olujobi triumphed over Segun Aluko and Wale Adesida to set up an all-underdog final.

Sanni, the oldest of the players in action had a great game, however, it was Okubena, who was returning to action after being sidelined by injury for over three months, that was the architect of a convincing win s he bagged series of winning shots while operating from the baseline.

He said: “It was just to come and play and have fun because the injury took its toll on me but I’m happy to get my strokes back and more excited to also be a winner.”

Tennis Section President, Onubogu Arinze, said the week-long event serves as the tonic to test the abilities of the old and up-and-coming ones adding it has also strengthen the bond of friendship of members.
