The Senate caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has refuted reports of divisions among its members and declared that there is no crack in its fold.
The caucus also pledged its full cooperation with the leadership of the Senate, headed by Senate President Bukola Saraki.
The spokesman of the caucus, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe (Abia South) said these in a statement issued thursday, against the backdrop of insinuations that there is a growing rift within the opposition fold in the upper legislative chamber.
The development, he said, necessitated conflicting statements last weekend.
“Contrary to such rumours, the PDP caucus is united as ever and have rather reaffirmed its determination not to shy away from carrying out the constitutionally guaranteed role as a coordinated and responsible opposition on the floor of the Senate,” he said.
Abaribe added that the pledge to work harmoniously with the leadership of the Senate in the interest of Nigerians and deepening of democracy, is without prejudice to the overriding prospect of safe guarding the institution of the Senate.
“The PDP Senate Caucus is united and have resolved to continue to speak with one voice, more than ever before. I can assure you that there is no cracks in our fold, we have rather solidified our base with the aim of offering the desired opposition in the interest of our people,” he emphasised.
“That notwithstanding, the caucus will work harmoniously with leadership of the Senate for the enthronement of good governance and the preservation of the sanctity of the Senate as an institution,” Abaribe added.
