Obasanjo’s Ex-wife Alleges Threat to Life over Son’s Wedding

Following a suit instituted by Mrs. Taiwo Obasanjo, ex-wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to stop her son’s wedding, she has alleged that certain persons have been detailed to assassinate her.
Mrs. Obasanjo, in a petition to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, dated April 4, 2017, alleged that those contracted to kill her included her twin brother, Chief Kenny Martins, her future daughter-in-law, Tope Adebutu and the bride-to-be’s mother, Ms. Rosemary Dacosta.
She had in an originating motion on notice filed before an Ikeja High Court, asked that her son’s wedding to Mr. Kessington Adebutu’s daughter be postponed to any other date after May 30, 2017.
Obasanjo and father of the bride, Adebutu, better known as Baba Ijebu, a lottery business mogul, are the respondents to the suit filed before Justice Lateefa Okunnu.
Mrs. Obasanjo, who is the twin sister of Martins, the former coordinator of the Police Equipment Fund, wants the court to declare that as the mother of the groom, she has parental rights to take part in the deliberations, decisions and activities leading to the wedding.
She stated that the wedding invitations were sent out without her involvement in the preparations for the upcoming nuptials.
According to her, prior to the fixing of the wedding date, she had a premonition regarding her son who will turn 34 on June 1.
Mrs. Obasanjo alleged that the trio of her twin brother, her future daughter-in-law and Ms. Adebutu’s mother had perfected plans to get the police to arrest and detain her on trumped up charges between May 10 and May 14, 2017, when the wedding is scheduled to take place.
“I was reliably informed that the three persons mentioned above have perfected plans to assassinate me because I requested the court to shift the wedding date of my son from the month of May to June 2017.
“They also have a plan to start a smear campaign against my person using various media platforms such as newspapers, internet etc.
“Their third plan is to frame me on false charges and get me arrested and detained by the police from the 10th-14th May, 2017 and also to involve the military police to achieve their plans.
“Sir, this issue reported here is neither a small matter nor a figment of my imagination because sometime during the time of late Head of State, Gen. Abacha, when Daddy Obasanjo was in prison, the late Stella Obasanjo got the military through Frank Omenka to detain me at DMI Apapa on false charges.
“Sir, what is unfolding now is not a wedding preparation but a desperate attempt to kill me because I told Rosemary Dacosta and her daughter, Tope Adebutu to allow the wedding to hold after the month of May 2017.
“Chief Kenny Martins is the leader of the planned assassination on my life. Sir, I am reporting this issue so that you can please use your good office to step in because there is a deep strange desperation attached to the wedding of my son which is now a do-or-die wedding ceremony for them,” she said.
When contacted, her brother declined to comment on the petition, saying he was not aware of any petition by anybody against him.
“I don’t have any petition from the police on my table so I don’t react to what is not before me,” he said.
Mrs. Dacosta also refused to comment on the petition, saying she was not interested in whatever anybody had said or is saying about her.
“I don’t want to listen to anybody. I have nothing to say about what is happening because I don’t know anybody. Thank you so much and bye bye,” she said.
Miss Adebutu did not pick her calls when contacted.
Justice Okunnu will hear the suit filed by Mrs. Obasanjo on April 10.
