Troops Intercept Rustled Cattle, Arrest Fake Currency Vendors in Bauchi

The troops deployed at Forward Operations Base in Burra Town, Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, have intercepted rustled cows and rams being conveyed by suspected armed bandits.

THISDAY checks revealed that the gallant troops swung into action following a tip-off by well meaning persons, that rustled cows and rams were being moved from Zomo to Dangafa general area, both in Bura District of Ningi Local Government Area, Bauchi State.

The fighting patrol intercepted the stolen cattle around Dangarfa Town. Unfortunately, the armed bandits fled on sighting the soldiers.

The troops recovered 39 cows and 43 rams which were  handed over to the District Head of Burra for onward transfer to the rightful owners.

Meanwhile, the troops also arrested fake currency vendors in the popular Wunti Market area of the state. After being tipped of the illegal practice in the market, the officers dressed in covert attires stormed the market on March 31, 2017.

They found the sum of N21,000 fake currency on one of the arrested vendors, Mallam Idris Hassan. The 47 year-old man claimed the fake notes were given to him by one Mallam Auwal Wanzam who reside in Bauchi City.

Other suspects arrested across the state include Mallam Sani Ibrahim, Abdulahi Suleiman, Zubairu Ya’u and Isyaku Hardo.

Further investigation revealed that they have a syndicate group in Kano State where one Mallam Abubakar Musa was arrested. The sum of N26,000 fake currency was also recovered from them.      This brings the total amount of recovered adulterated naira notes from the suspected criminals to N47,000.

The suspects and the recovered fake currency notes were handed over to the Economic and financial crimes commission (EFCC), Zonal office, Gombe, Gombe, State command for further investigation.
