Jide Bademosi U-19 Cricket Tourney Bowls off in Ibadan
Hostilities will begin today as some of the best cricket teams in the South West zone have assembled at the Liberty Stadium Ibadan to battle for honours in the maiden edition of the Jide Bademosi U-19 Cricket tournament.
Team Ogun will open their account in the competition with a clash against host Team Oyo in the opening match at Pitch 1, while Lagos will take on Team Osun, the first visiting team to arrive Ibadan.
On day two, Team Lagos will square against Team Ogun while the homers, Team Oyo tackle Osun,
On day three Lagos comes face to face with host team Oyo in a match that would mean a lot to the two teams. Osun and Ogun would tango in the other match of the day.
On Sunday, the first and second placed teams will slug it out in an epic final to decide the winner.
Yesterday was arrival and the teams representing Lagos, Ogun, Osun and host Oyo states will be paired in epic matches to determine who wins the tournament which ends on Sunday, April 23.
“Competition will begin Thursday,” said tournament co-ordinator, Okon Ukpong yesterday. Organisers have called on cricket lovers in Ibadan to turn up in their thousands and cheer their teams to victory.
“We hope to witness stiff competition as all the teams have prepared for this tournament,” said the tournament co-ordinator, Okon Ukpong. He would not point out any team as favourites, insisting that “only the best prepared team can win the tournament.”
Sponsored by Energy and Mineral Resources Limited (EMR), the Jide Bademosi U-19 tournament is a 40 over competition which will take a round robin format. The first and second placed teams will play in the final on Sunday.
