Amosun Reiterates Need for Economic Diversification
Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has blamed Nigeria’s economic challenges on the neglect of agriculture.
Amosun stated this when Participants of Course 39 at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, visited him at his Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta office on Tuesday.
While welcoming the course participants who were on a study tour of the state, the governor said: “For Nigeria to get it right, the nation must move away from the monolithic economy.â€
The governor recalled the years of groundnut pyramid, palm oil and cocoa, which he said, were used to develop the different regions, adding that oil proceeds should have been used to develop other sectors of the economy.
Head of the delegation, Dr. Nasrudeen Usman, in his remarks, said: “There is no way we can talk about recent progress recorded in the field of agriculture in Nigeria, without a prominent mention of Ogun State.â€
He added that as a nation, Nigeria can employ science and technology in the area of seed improvement, farm mechanisation and agro processing.
