NBC Bankrolls 2017 Lagos Yacht Club Boat Racing Championship
Boat race lovers in Lagos were treated to a wonderful experience of splashing fun and excitement at the sixth edition of the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) sponsored Lagos Yacht Club Annual Boat Racing Competition which held on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the Lagos Yacht Club, Onikan, Lagos.
Speaking at the end of the competition, the National Sales Director, Nigerian Bottling Company Limited, Mr. Dan Fratila explained that Nigerian Bottling Company’s sponsorship of the Lagos Yacht Club Regatta Cup is in line with the focus of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
“We at NBC recognize the fact that every successful company must succeed alongside the community wherein it operates hence we partner with them across different aspect to help achieve their dreams. Our consumers have continually shown great love and acceptance for our products over the years and this is one of the little ways we give back to the community,†Fratila said.
“For several years, NBC has been supporting sports through football and many other sporting activities. In this case, we are trying to encourage people to embrace boat racing as a sport and lifestyle. This NBC Coca-Cola Regatta Cup is part of our CRS to our loyal consumers,†he added.
Also speaking after the competition, the National Marketing Director, Nigerian Bottling Company Limited, Mr. Sergio Vieira, further explained that the company’s drive to support sport development within the nation is expansive as it is known that the NBC COPA Coca-Cola football tournament is another massive sport development initiative.
Sergio Vieira explained that through COPA Coca-Cola, the company is engaging 5000 schools across Nigeria. He assured that the company would continue to support the Lagos Yacht Club, and other sporting platforms, which according to him, would enhance sports development in the country.
Also speaking during the competition, the Sailing Secretary, Lagos Yacht Club, Mr. David McNaught, applauded the effort of all the participants for their zeal and determination, adding that the NBC Coca-Cola Regatta Cup would continue to grow and improve the overall love for boat racing in Nigeria.
A total number of 22 boats (11 lightning, 8 Hobie, and 3 Mixed Monohull) participated in this year’s edition of the competition which lasted several rounds after which prizes were awarded to the winners.
Some of the participant who won prizes at this year’s edition of the competition include; Karel Minnaar and Joe Jaskoiski, 1st prize winners for the Lightning Class Category; David Kruyt and Carole Bossier, 1st prize winners for the Hobie Class Category; and Julean Hardy, Mortes Foght and Arun Tolani, 1st prize winners Mixed Monohull Class Category.
