BEDC: 9% Electricity Allocation Grossly Inadequate
By James Sowole in Akure
The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has said the nine per cent power generation allocated to the company for distribution to four states under its jurisdiction is grossly inadequate.
The BEDC Chief State Head for Ondo and Ekiti States, Mrs Kunbi Labiyi, stated this during a chat with journalists in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
According to her, the total generation is about 3,526MW out of which the BEDC is given nine per cent amounting to 317.35MW to serve Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti States, adding that it is grossly inadequate.
“Nigeria is at major disadvantage because of what we generate. Federal government is generating 3526MW presently. Nine per cent of this is allocated for BEDC which 317.35MW to serve Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti States.
“Out of this allocation of BEDC, only 58.39MW is for the power consumers in Ondo State. This is grossly inadequate. Load management is the solution for now to ensure that all customers are taking care of,” she said.
