The Sokoto State Executive Council (SEC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Thursday suspended the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Chapel from the union, indefinitely.
This was contained in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman Isa Abubakar Shuni and Secretary Abdallah El-kurebe in Sokoto.
According to the statement, the suspension was as a result of the NTA Chapel deceiving notable personalities into accepting awards, without ratification by the National Secretariat of the NUJ.
The statement said the decision was reached at the end of a SEC meeting held at the NUJ Press Centre on Wednesday.
“The NTA Chapel, even having been intimated of the provisions of Article 5 of the NUJ Constitution, also attended a SEC meeting on May 28, 2017 at which a resolution was reached that the award be postponed until the Council received consent from the National Secretariat.
