The Bauchi State Government is to collaborate with private companies to raise 10 million seedlings to address desertification in the northern part of the state.
The State Commissioner for Environment and Solid Minerals, Dr Audu Gani Bogoro, stated this on Monday while briefing newsmen on the achievements of the ministry at the state secretariat in Bauchi.
Bogoro said that immediately after the inception of the administration, the government supported the launching of tree planting campaign at Katagum Local Government Dugunde Forest Reserve and approved the sum of N7.5 million for the payment of consultants who are engaged to access 30 per cent ecological fund.
According to him, “To combat desertification, the ministry has invited mining companies that were on site and advised them to reactivate their licences in order to avoid embarrassment from the government.
“Also, a law to regulate mining as it relates to Environmental Operationalism Business has been passed by the state house of assembly and assented by the governor.”
