Sokoto Accountability Coalition on Maternal Health (SACOM) has called for the strengthening of accountability mechanisms in the health sector.
Speaking during a seminar in Sokoto Wednesday, Chairman of the coalition, Mr. Mu’azu Muhammad, who spoke through  a member of the coalition, Hajiya Ubaida Bello, said it was necessary for greater performance of health systems.
According to him, enhancing such mechanisms would help in improving health indices in the state, adding that SACOM, which has members from civil society organisations, the media, and legislature as well as different government ministries, departments and agencies would use strategic advocacy approach to contribute towards strengthening accountability mechanisms on maternal health in the state.
Muazu to this end, commended Governor Aminu Tambuwal for according top priority to the health sector.
In his remark, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Balarabe Kakale, said the Governor Aminu Tambuwal-led administration had been enhancing efforts towards boosting the sector.
