- Urges Agip, others to show greater presence in Bayelsa
Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, wednesday called on the federal government to accord special attention to the Brass Liquefied Natural Gas project (LNG) to ensure its successful take off.
He also urged the management of Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC) to site a modular refinery and build its corporate office in the state, with a promise to provide land for the purpose.
Dickson made the call during separate meetings with the top management officials of the Brass LNG and NAOC in Government House, Yenagoa.
While described the Brass LNG project as strategic towards accelerating the pace of socio-economic wellbeing of the state, Niger Delta and the country at large, the governor decried the delay and stressed the need for all stakeholders to work together to bring the project into fruition.
He said: “I want to call on the federal government to pay special attention to the Brass LNG project. This is one of the greatest interventions we will be having in this state. It has capacity to engage youths, create wealth and develop skills as well as turn around the economy of the Niger Delta region and the country.
“I am told that there are hitches, but I want to use this opportunity to reiterate the commitment of the government and people of this state to encourage the completion of this project by collaborating with all partners including the federal government to see that these hurdles are addressed.â€
The governor charged the companies to pay their fair share of taxes and levies to the state, respect environmental laws and show greater degree of commitment to their corporate social responsibility.
He expressed delight over the Brass LNG Managing Director, Mr. Daniele Tamborini’s personal visit to Bayelsa, describing it as heart-warming, as it would afford the Managing Director the opportunity to appreciate first hand, the prospects and challenges of the state.
The Managing Director of the Brass LNG, Mr. Daniele Tamborini and his NAOC counterpart, Mr. Massimo Insulla, lauded the Dickson-led administration for its security efforts, which has significantly enhanced their operations in recent times.
The chief executives expressed gratitude to the governor for the support they have received and solicited the continued cooperation and support of the government and the people of the state.
