Tames Sowole in Akure
Five suspected ritualists were on Monday arrested in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The men according to findings, were arrested after they fled from their hideout, which was an uncompleted two-storey building beside the Gani Fawehinmi square at Alagbaka area along  Igbotoro road, Akure.
An eyewitness said the men fled their hideout when one of the security men attached to one of the offices near the building shot at a bird, which the suspects thought was fired by a policeman.
As the men rushed out of the building, they were pursued by some motorcycle operators popularly known as Okada riders plying the road.
Timely intervention of policemen saved the suspects from being lynched by youths and residents in the area.
It was gathered that the building owned by a retired judge in the state but had been sold to a businessman who was working to convert the building to an hotel.
The building was later abandoned for unknown reason.
Some of the items discovered in the abandoned building were rope suspectedly being used to hang their victims,  women underwears, cooking utensils, sleeping mattress, toothpastes and toothbrushes.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Ondo State Command, Â Femi Joseph, confirmed the arrest of the suspects.
Joseph said that the suspects were been screened to determine their culpability. He added that he could not be specific on the particular offence that the men were arrested for.
