Several Bayelsa women on Monday took to the streets of Yenagoa, the state capital, in protest against the murder of an army cadet, Enoch Saviour, by suspected cultists.
The 23-year-old cadet, who was on holiday from his school at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, was reportedly killed while attempting to rescue a victim who was being harassed by cultists in Ovom, a suburb of Yenagoa.
The angry women called on the police and the state government to save them from cases of violent attacks, rape, armed robbery and killings by the suspected cultists.
THISDAY learnt that Saviour’s killing at about 8pm last Saturday drew sympathy from residents because of his popularity in the area.
A source said the victim was on the street having a chat with a friend who is also a Naval rating with the Central Naval Command, Bayelsa, when he heard screams from a victim whose bag was snatched by suspected cultists.
