Member representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdulsamad Dasuki, has called on youths in the state to go back to the farm in order to engage in commercial farming.

Speaking with THISDAY in Sokoto at the weekend, Dasuki said the call was necessary due to the menace of unemployment among Nigerian youths.

He maintained that the present economic situation in the country has shown Nigerians the need to embrace farming as a viable alternative to oil.

The lawmaker emphasised that doing so, would enable the youths to become self sufficient and independent.

According to him, the state is endowed with vast fertile land which gives it comparative advantage.

The lawmaker to this end, announced plans to empower youths in Tambuwal and Kebbe local government areas to engage in commercial farming.

“I am ready to provide financial support to our youths to enable them engage in commercial farming. This is very critical as farming is a major source of income for our people.

“So, you should go back to the farms, and engage in both rainy and dry season farming. With this, we can produce adequate food to be locally self-sufficient,” he said.
