Niger Releases N3.3bn for Renovation of Two General Hospitals

As part of its health sector reforms, the Niger State government has said that it has released N3.3 billion for the renovation of the Suleja and Kontagora General Hospitals.
Under the plan, according to the Commissioner for Health, Dr Mustapha Jibril, N1.4 billion would be spent on the Suleja General Hospital, while the balance of N1.9 billion would be committed to the Kontagora General Hospital.
Dr. Jibril made the disclosure while meeting with officials of the World Health Organisation (WHO) led by its Country Representative, Dr Bello Muhammad, in Minna last weekend.
The renovation of the general hospitals, Jibril said, was to bring them out of their present states of total deterioration to make them serve the people better.
Apart from the renovation of these hospitals, the commissioner told his guests that the School of Nursing, Kontagora would be upgraded with N200 million, adding that the government had also released N160 million for the construction of an administrative block at the School of Midwifery in Minna in addition to the release of N100 million being part of the budget for the construction and renovation of the male and female hostels at the state College of Nursing and Sciences, Bida.
