The Sokoto State House of Assembly on Tuesday suspended two lawmakers, Alhaji Sani Yakubu and Alhaji Malami Galadanchi, representing Gudu and Sokoto North I constituency respectively for unethical behaviour.
The suspension was sequel to the consideration of a report presented by the House Special Committee to investigate the allegations of unethical conduct by some members of the Assembly , that attempted to impeach the Speaker of the Assembly Alhaji Salihu Maidaji few weeks ago.
The Chairman of the Special Committee, Alhaji Habibu Modachi representing Isa constituency, had moved the motion for the Assembly to consider the findings and recommendations of the committee.
“That, the two dependants, Sani Yakubu and Malami Galadanchi pleaded guilty of all the charges leveled against them.
“That, the two dependants, had committed unethical behavior in the legislative chamber on August 15 contrary to the provisions of the House standing rules and the legislative House act.
“That, all witnesses testified in the proof of the allegations leveled against the two members are rectified, though the allegation against Galadanchi granting interview with Savannah Television has not been proved,†he said.
Modachi maintained that, it was based on these findings that the committee had come-up with the following recommendations.
“That Yakubu be suspended for the period of 40 legislative days and also submit an apology letter to the Assembly for his action.
“That Galadanchi be suspended for the period of 30 legislative days and also to forward an apology letter to the assembly for his conduct,†he concluded.
The Speaker of the House, Alhaji Salihu Maidaji, said the recommendation of the committee was considered and approved accordingly, as the members accepted the request in a majority vote.
