Psychiatric Hospital Yaba to Upgrade Infrastructure

The management of the Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, is set to upgrade the infrastructure and equipment of the tertiary facility, aimed at making it one of the best in the world.
According to a statement from the hospital signed by the Chairman, Organising Committee of the hospital’s 110 anniversary, Stephen Oluwaniyi, this plan is part of the activities lined up to mark the anniversary.
He said the current management led by the recently appointed Chief Medical Director, Dr. Oluwayemi Ogun, was set to take advantage of the celebrations to reposition the hospital for its next level of excellent service delivery.
“Working with the theme; ‘Scaling up Mental Health Services in the New Millennium’, the key objective of the celebration is to highlight the hospital’s long standing achievements and contributions as well as to sensitise stakeholders on the projections for the next decade and beyond.
“Also, efforts will be made to educate and enlighten members of the public on issues related to mental health, especially in terms of the consequences of lifestyles that are inimical to mental well-being,†he added.
The anniversary events will include secondary school debates on Wednesday, October 18 on ‘Drug Abuse for The Youths’. There shall also be Pharmaceutical Presentation.
Also, on Thursday October 30, activities to be featured include Patients Games and Competition designed to make patients have a feel of the celebration and Novelty Football match between members of staff in the Clinical and Non-Clinical departments.
The high point of the anniversary celebration, according to him shall be a Dinner and Awards Night scheduled to hold on Saturday, December 2 at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Other activities are Scientific Conference holding on Wednesday, November 8, Anniversary/End of the year Fun Fair as well as An Evening with the Veterans; November 15 will be Picnic/Beach Party; December 6 will be Juma’at Service; December 15 will be Interdenominational Service.
In addition, December 17 will be Anniversary / End of the Year Party for staff.
According to the statement, the hospital which came into being in 1907 Is the oldest and biggest Psychiatric Hospital in Nigeria.
