Teenage Pregnancies Prevalent  in Ekiti

A non-governmental organisation,  New  Generation Girls and Women Development Initiative(NIGAWD) , has disclosed that despite the increasing practice of  genital mutilation among residents that teenage pregnancy is still high in  Ekiti State. It disclosed that  in spite of the prevalence of genital mutilation in the state, which some people believed would curb promiscuity  that Ekiti still record one of the highest female dropouts necessitated by untimely pregnancy in the country . NIGAWD founder and Executive Director, Princess Abimbola Aladejare, lamented that 70 out of 100 girl child in Ekiti were  circumcised, describing the scenario as exposing girls to various medical risks .
