Jonathan, PDP Govs for Obaze’s Campaign Flag-off Today
By David-Chyddy Eleke in Awka
Former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose and his Rivers State counterpart, Chief Nyesom Wike and others are expected in Onitsha today for the flag-off of the campaigns of the party’s candidate for the Anambra State governorship election.
The Director General of Oseloka Obaze Campaign Organisation, Mr. Joe-Martin Uzodike, who addressed members of the party at the campaign office in Awka during the inauguration of the local government campaign team, said the party had engaged in massive mobilisation.
Though Uzodike did not mention those expected at the flag-off, THISDAY gathered from a source close to the party hierarchy in the state that all the governors on the party’s platform have been invited for the event, including the former president, Jonathan.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) had a week ago flagged-off its campaign with a mammoth crowd in attendance, while daring other political parties to do same to announce their popularity if they can.
Former National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, had said it was by the mammoth crowd putting other parties on notice to steer clear as the state belongs to APGA.
Meanwhile, the party’s candidate, Obaze and the state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano have engaged each other in a war of words over the rightful owner of a facebook account which have repeatedly made ‘inciting posts’ against Obiano.
Obaze had first accused Governor Willie Obiano of cloning his facebook account, and also using it to make posts that were aimed at deceiving Anambra people.
But in a swift reaction, Ifeanyi Aniagoh, Special Assistant to the governor on new media demanded apology from Obaze over the accusation of Obiano, who he said was innocent and unaware of the existence of the account.
A statement by Obaze’s media team said: “The attention of the media team of the PDP governorship candidate, Obaze has been drawn to a fake facebook account bearing the name “Oseloka Henry Obaze†and used to make fictitious post, thereby crediting them to our candidate for the purpose of turning him against the reading public.
“The said account on a careful perusal belonged to “Obiano†and the name was changed to “Oseloka Henry Obaze†on 13/10/17 and had been used to make three posts.â€
The team called on Obiano and his media team to refrain from such, while advising members of the public to always be vigilant and alert so as not to fall for the inordinate antics of desperate politicians.
Aniagoh on the other hand issued a statement accusing one of Obaze’s supporters as the operator of the account but decided to denounce it after receiving knocks over posts it made for his principal (Obaze) against Obiano.
He accused Obaze of presenting himself as a man of integrity, just as his supporters have presented him as a thoroughbred diplomat, yet he has been a major beneficiary of hate campaign, yet is not known to have cautioned anyone of followers who indulge in that.
Aniagoh demanded apology from Obaze to Obiano, saying that anything short of it totally strips Obaze of the integrity his followers try to attribute to him.
