Daji Sani in Yola
Adamawa State Governor, Muhammed Jibrilla Bindow, has confirmed that Boko Haram terrorists on Wednesday attacked Sabon Gari and Kafin Hausa villages in Madagali Local Government Area of the state, resulting in many deaths and injuries to others.
The governor disclosed this in Yola on Thursday but said the casualties had not been ascertained from the said attack.
He however said a joint operation of the Nigerian troops, local vigilantes and hunters repelled the attack.
According to him, “Yes there was a fierce battle that lasted for an hour but praise be to Allah, the attacks launched by fleeing Boko Haram terrorists on Sabon Gari and the other villages in Madagali Local Government Area were repelled by a combine forces of soldiers, Mobile Police, hunters and vigilantes. Security is now on top of the situation now,’’ Governor Bindow said.
Reports from the affected area said the terrorists came in their hundreds and shot into the air sporadically before they were engaged by the military manning these areas.
The report claimed that for now, no life has been lost at the time of sending this report.
However, the report also indicated that barely five days ago, a similar attack was launched in a neighbouring Gulak administrative headquarters of Madagali where at least two people lost their lives including soldier.
An eyewitness also reported that the battle between the military and the insurgency lasted for several hours before the troops overpowered them.
He said the incident created tensions and panic which resulted in residents fleeing the area for a safety ground.
Also confirming the last Monday’s attack, member representing Madagali and Michika at the House of Representatives, Adamu Kamale, said it lasted for about two hours and that the terrorists killed livestock, looted and burnt down many houses.
“They were rampaging as they (Boko Haram) continued to attack our villages.
“I had a distress call that they have launched night attack at Sabon Gari and Kafin Hausa villages and as I am talking to you now, the Nigerian troops have engaged them in a fierce battle,’’ he said.
