Secondus: Buhari’s Government Most Corrupt in Nigeria’s History
Senator Iroegbu in Abuja
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, yesterday described the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration as the “most corrupt’’ in the history of the country, challenging women to aspire to all political offices in the country, including the presidency
Secondus who stated this in Abuja at a forum organised by the PDP Women to mark the International Women Day, 2018, charged them to rise up and help in rescuing Nigeria, while asking them to emulate late Mrs. Olufunmilayo Ransome-Kuti and Madam Margaret Ekpo.
He said things are now so bad in the country that chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have started speaking out against the swelling rot in their party.
The PDP national chairman commended Senator Dino Melaye (APC, Kogi West) for his bold statement on the floor of the Senate recently, saying: “Is it not clear the man is tired of corruption within APC?’’
He continued: “In the Senate thursday, one of the APC leaders, Melaye, spoke out because you must speak the truth.
“In 16 years, PDP borrowed N6 trillion; but in less than three years, APC government has borrowed N16 trillion. So who is corrupt? Did they see the money? Where is infrastructure, where is water, where is electricity where is food, where is security?
“So, this government is even more corrupt than any government in Nigeria. We have ministers who are corrupt in this government, including top government officials. They are swimming in corruption, yet they are harassing innocent people.
“Nigerians should congratulate Melaye for speaking out; they cannot kill him. They cannot kill us. If they attempt to kill us, God will protect us. So, Dino, we congratulate you for speaking out, for speaking the truth.â€
He further challenged the women to not only speak out but be prepared to challenge the status quo, adding that time is ripe for women presidency in Nigeria.
According, the PDP chairman, “I can see a country with women participating at the highest level. I can see the picture when one day, whether we like it or not, since we have failed as men, a woman president will emerge in this country.
“Women, on behalf of the men, I want to apologise to all of you, to women in Nigeria, women in Africa because African men have disappointed both the women and the children. We need to apologise to them before God Almighty so that God will help us. God loves the women.
“You must speak against what is going on in our country today. When women speak, God will hear our prayers; the voice of the people is the voice of God. It is time for you to speak out.
“So we challenge you to aspire to all offices. On this day you must come with a collective resolve to fight injustice and inequality in our nation, in Africa. On this day, you must resolve to speak out; you must resolve to speak against evil on our land. You must speak against the APC government that is harassing our leaders. Of course you know that they are more corrupt than any group in Nigeria.’’
